A 94 year old WW II veteran was pistol whipped and robbed in his home on Friday, to the shock of many neighbors and citizens. Hershel “Bud” Moore is recovering from a horrible attack in which police say he was tied up, beaten and robbed. The victim was able to free himself and contact authorities after his attackers left.
Residents of Arcadia, Indiana whose small town population is 1700 strong, are shocked and irate that someone would hurt and take advantage of one of their citizens.
Police Chief William Hickrod says this type of attack is uncommon for this town, noting “[For] somebody to break in a home and use a firearm and threaten them and ‘Give me money and give me this’…that’s very unusual.”
Many local and online community members are supporting Bud not just in words, but also in deeds. Visitors, citizen patrollers and even an alarm company have donated time and services to Bud. A GoFundMe.com “Justice for Bud” campaign has been set up to collect money to support Bud and assist with a reward for the capture of the perpetrator(s).
In a recently created support group, member Carol Spiros Cerceo says “It is heartbreaking to hear how cruel one can be to another, but yet so heartwarming to watch and hear how a community has come together and wrapped their arms around Bud and his family in the hopes of catching these criminals.”
Police chief William Hickrod states they have identified two suspects in this case. However, anyone with pertinent information regarding this brutal attack should contact the Hamilton County Sheriff Department Crime Prevention and Tip line at 317-776-5848.
