Woman found unconscious in street, soldier in Ranger Regiment arrested for rape

Police in Alabama took into custody a man from Georgia’s Fort Benning Army Post for rape on Monday.

According to police, on May 12 around 2 a.m., Auburn police officers were called to Engineering Drive on the campus of Auburn University following a report of a female lying unconscious.

A DNA examination by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences of the victim determined that an acquaintance of the victim, Alexander Hernandez, has sexually assaulted her.

According to WSFA, detectives were able to obtain a warrant for Hernandez’s arrest charging him with rape in the first-degree.

23-year-old Hernandez is assigned to the regimental military intelligence battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning -which is about an hour drive from Auburn University.

After becoming aware of Hernandez’s warrant, Fort Benning provided this response to the incident.

“The 75th Ranger Regiment is aware of the allegations resulting in the arrest of a soldier assigned to the regimental military intelligence battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.

Hernandez turned himself into police and was taken to the Lee County Jail where he was being held on a $100,000 bond.
