Woman arrested after slashing throat of Iraq War veteran boyfriend

A Texas woman is behind bars after fatally shooting and slitting the throat of her Army veteran boyfriend, citing that he was a “jerk.”

30-year-old San Antonio resident Laura Flores-Messick was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of killing 40-year-old boyfriend and Army veteran Chason Montez-Deoca over the weekend.

Angry that her boyfriend made her leave a bar on Saturday night, she reportedly shot the veteran, slitting his throat afterwards -to ensure he was dead- and fled the scene.

The man’s body was found by his mother, who visited the home. Police rounded up Messick shortly after and she confessed to the murder.

Messick is being held on a $75,000 bond on suspicion of first degree murder.

Friends and family members referred to the victim as a proud soldier and a father of two. Vigils and social media condolences have sprung up in honor of his life and service.

Montez-Deoca served as a Bridge Crewmember between 2008 and 2013, which brings in mobile bridges to allow armor and vehicles to cross impassable terrain. He had served in Iraq in 2011 before returning home, leaving the US Army in 2013 and settling down in Texas.

According to the local Fox news, relatives are raising money to help his loved ones through GoFundMe.
