A California man has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon after pointing a firearm at a large crowd of protesters in Upland, CA.
Jacob Daniel Bracken was witnessed on video holding the weapon and yelling, “Back the f*** up!”
“What this person did was unacceptable,” Upland Police Chief Darren Goodman said in an interview with NBCLA. “I would hope that people could accept difference of opinion and different views without taking a violent position, just like I hope the protesters can learn to continue to be peaceful in their protests and not destroy property.”
Goodman said the assault with deadly weapon charge was decided by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office after seeing the footage.
NBC reports a witness who claims to know Bracken said someone was walking across the street to engage with the protesters, and said they were “rushed.”
After that, he turned around and he saw Bracken brandish the weapon.
A witness told an NBC reporter there were seven of them and about 200 BLM protesters who rushed them.
“Of course” he said, when asked if he feared for his life. “Look at this situation, it’s 200 against seven people here”
“We don’t know where these people came from, they don’t live in Upland,” he continued.

Police told NBCLA that the location of the incident was not on Bracken’s property, and he is a Rancho Cucamonga resident.
Bracken potentially faces up to four years in prison or six months in county jail if convicted as charged.
