Watch: Live broadcast of battle against ISIS in Mosul, Iraq


Iraqi government forces and Kurdish Pershmega forces, with air and ground support from the U.S.-led coalition launched an offensive to drive Islamic State from the northern city of Mosul.

Mosul is Iraq’s second-largest city and the last urban center still under ISIL control in Iraq after a series of government offensives to reverse the group’s seizure of territory in 2014.

Coalition forces hoisted the Iraqi flag on the goverment building of Hamdaniya, 35-kilometers southeast of Mosul. Earlier, they pushed the terrorists out of Shura district, south of Mosul. Iraqi media says the army and police have moved their military hardware into Shura. The Iraqi forces have also retaken over 20 villages around Mosul. They are said to be pushing towards the city on two main fronts. According to Iraqi commanders, ISIS terrorists have moved residents over a dozen villages to Mosul to use them as human shield. Meanwhile, Iraq’s Air Force has destroyed a large convoy of top ISIS commanders fleeing the city.
