Viral video of pro-Hamas activist tearing down US flags is not exactly what it seems

A video that has over 1.5 million views on Twitter/X purports to show a “Muslim immigrant” tearing down US flags in Manhattan New York but it’s only partly true.

While the incident did occur and the motivation for the act was hatred for the United States’ support for Israel, the video was not recorded recently.

“Muslim immigrants tear down USA flags,” the Twitter/X account wrote on March 3rd. “Zero respect for the country that hosts them.”

The user was likely attempting to tie the incident to the recent news of the Biden administration admitting to transporting “migrants” on secret flights into the U.S. without giving the locations of their arrival due to national security “vulnerabilities.”

Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from foreign countries were flown into at least 43 different American airports from January through December 2023.

But the video, which was filmed by Katie Smith, of the activist tearing down the flags on East 43rd Street occurred back in November during a pro-Palestine protest march through New York City.

The identity of the activist has not been confirmed so it is not known if they are one of the “migrants” that have been let into the US and given parole release, which allows them to remain in the U.S. for two years without obtaining legal status and eligible for work authorization.
