A Polish firm (Obrum) has unveiled a stealth tank (the PL-01 concept tank) covered in “smart” thermal tiles that can disguise the heat signature of the tank to enemy infrared and thermal sensors. The firm claims the tank can be made to look like an ordinary car at the touch of a button by heating areas on the tank in the shape of a car. The tank can also go into total stealth mode by adjusting the tile temperatures to ambient levels. The tank, developed in partnership with BAE, is expected to enter service in 2018.
