Video: Obama’s coffee salute

President Obama gave an unorthodox salute after stepping off a U.S. Marines helicopter on Tuesday. He saluted a Marine with his coffee cup. We’ve all heard of Operation Coffee Cup, but not a Commander-in-Chief saluting our troops with one. The Daily Caller notes that it is against protocol to salute while carrying items. “In some situations, the salute is not appropriate,” says the Marine Corps’ officer candidates manual. “In general, do not salute when… carrying articles with both hands or being otherwise so occupied as to make saluting impractical.” The manual also calls the salute “the most important of all military courtesies.”
