Some veterans are angry about the recent claim by Sarah Palin that her son, Track, allegedly punched his girlfriend– due to his issues with PTSD.
Ms. Palin was catapulted back into the spotlight recently when she spoke before a crowd at a Donald Trump rally on Wednesday. During the speech she opened up about her family’s own issues and essentially blamed the lack of respect for the military, at the highest levels of government, and PTSD, for her son’s domestic violence problems.
Track-a 26-year-old Iraq combat veteran- was hauled off to jail Monday night in Wasilla, Alaska. The police report described a “shambolic scene” and a female victim with swelling around her eye. Police say Track had a blood alcohol level of 0.189. Officers who tried questioning him about the incident said he was “uncooperative, belligerent, and evasive.”
Palin had apparently struck his girlfriend on the left side of her head, after she threatened to call 911 — during a fight that had escalated. Track allegedly reached for his AR-15 rifle and threatened suicide.
Many are upset now that Sarah Palin is somehow trying to link this type of violence to Track’s PTSD. A combat vet who slept in the same barracks as Track, said Sarah Palin is ‘wrong’ and her son is ‘not a victim’- according to the Daily Mail.
A Twitter user by the name of DKey wrote: ‘As a combat vet, EXTREMELY disgusted by #SarahPalin blaming PTSD 4 domestic abuse. ‘Fragile male ego & compulsive masculinity did it NOT PTSD.’
The digital media director of the Dept. of Veteran Affairs said that Palin was using PTSD as an excuse to “shift blame away from her son’s domestic violence.”
“She never mentioned the actual victim. She portrayed her son as the victim, but never talked about his girlfriend, apparently crying and hiding under a bed because he beat her,” Brandon Friedman said.
Track has since bonded out of jail. He’s set to appear in court on Feb 19th.
