USS Theodore Roosevelt sailor dies of coronavirus, China deploys carrier strike group in the Pacific

A USS Theodore Roosevelt sailor has died from coronavirus-related complications, according to the US Navy.

The unnamed sailor was admitted to the ICU on Thursday, and reportedly died in the past few days.

CNN reported that out of the 92% of TR crew members tested for coronavirus, around 600 have tested positive.

Originally scheduled to deploy to the Pacific, the TR was sidelined due to the outbreak, leaving a gaping hole in America’s canvassing of the world’s oceans.

According to Yahoo News, an H-6 bomber, J-11 fighter and KJ-500 reconnaissance plane from the PLA Air Force flew over southwestern Taiwan on Thursday and later followed a US RC-135U electronic reconnaissance aircraft.

The Chinese carrier Liaoning is currently the only aircraft carrier active in the western Pacific.
