An airman, assigned to Eielson Air Force Base, was found dead in a parking lot in North Pole, Alaska on Monday.

Reports conflict on which parking lot 23-year-old Senior Airman Elijah Evans was found in and the Air Force did not specify if he was in a vehicle or not.

The Air Force said he was found in a “restaurant parking” lot but KTVF News reported North Pole police said he was found at the Gorilla Fireworks parking lot, which is not far from the base.

Evans, a native of Waldorf, Maryland, joined the USAF in 2016 and was assigned to the 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Eielson.

“We are heartbroken to have lost a valued member of our team yesterday,” Col. Benjamin Bishop, 354th Fighter Wing commander, said in the statement. “Eielson considers itself a family and the loss of Elijah is felt by each of us deeply. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and are with all those affected by this tragedy.”

The Air Force said they did not suspect foul play but stated the incident is under investigation by the North Pole police and other local authorities.
