The U.S. Army has identified a soldier who was killed during an accident in Germany last week.
Army officials say Spc. Melvin Douglas Spruill Jr., 20, of Washington, N.C., died in a hospital in Germany on August 6. He was pulled from the lake by fellow service members in Riedstadt-Leeheim, according to German police.
“It was an honor and a privilege to have served alongside such an enthusiastic and dedicated patriot,” said Lt. Col. Frank Fair. “His death is an immeasurable loss. His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.
Spruill joined the Army in 2016 and was a petroleum supply specialist with 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment, at the Army Garrison Wiesbaden, according to Stripes.
The incident is under investigation.
