The two suspects in the murder of 24-year-old Army veteran Tyler Lackey were taken into custody last week.
Matthew Chavez was found in Oklahoma and arrested by U.S. Marshals after intensive undercover work, according to sources, according to KRQE. Veronica Trimble, Chavez’s accomplice, was also taken into custody the same day.
Tyler Louis Lackey, 24, was gunned down while standing in front of an ATM machine. Tyler and his friend stopped at the ATM after eating dinner because Tyler’s debit card was declined at the restaurant.

Tyler’s family said the decline was caused by a bank account error that resulted in an overcharge on his account. According to Tyler’s girlfriend he wanted to get cash from the ATM so that he could return to the restaurant and tip the waitress for the inconvenience.

When he was at the ATM, Chavez allegedly approached him and demanded money. Lackey defended himself by pulling out a firearm causing Chavez to retreat to his car where he used a firearm to shoot and kill Lackey, according to witness statements.
Lackey’s left behind a devastated girlfriend, Jeanette Munoz, who is still serving as a Specialist in the Army. The two met while they were both stationed at Fort Bragg and she happened to be in Albuquerque visiting Lackey for the weekend.
