Police in Johnston, Rhode Island have arrested two people for the theft of dozens of veteran grave markers.
They charged Robert Haney, 39, and Michael Gilligan, 32, with felony count of receiving stolen goods and conspiracy.
According to WPRI, the men were found with 29 bronze marker, valued at $20,503, and six bronze vases, valued at $2,160.
The Johnston County Sheriff department said that all of the grave markers were stolen from World War I, World War II, and Vietnam veteran’s graves.
Detectives, with the help of an informant, were able to recover the stolen makers and vases from J&S scrap.
Gilligan and Haney have long criminal records, and Haney is currently on probation. Bail was set at 20,000 for Haney and Gilligan will be arraigned today.
