During a the Presidential press briefing this afternoon, the President addressed the rules of engagement for the military being sent to the border.

His speech focused on immigration issues but did not address the ROE for the troops on the border.  Nothing related to the ROE was actually part of his prepared remarks; it was addressed during the Q & A portion.

A reporter asked the President “if he could foresee them [military] firing upon any of these people.”

“I hope there won’t be that,” he quickly responded.

“But I will tell you this: anyone throwing stones, rocks, like they did to Mexico, Mexican military and Mexican police -where they badly hurt police and soldiers of Mexico- we will consider that a firearm.”

“Because there is not much difference when you get hit in the face with a rock…”
