A parody trailer for the new Top Gun sequel is likely the most realistic explanation of how fighter jock Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is only a (Navy) Captain after over three decades of service.
In a spoof that rivals the real thing in terms of entertainment, the trailer shows Ed Harris’ character asking Maverick why he hasn’t made rank in 30+ years, followed by a montage of low fly-bys, sky penis drawings, and other hilarious F/A-18 antics.
Needless to say, it checks out, and goes perfectly with Maverick’s response: “It’s one of life’s mysteries.”
