The viral video of the Israeli soldier crying is not what it seems

A video allegedly showing a female Israel Defense Forces soldier crying with the sound of explosions in the background has gone viral on social media amid the war in Gaza.

But as with most videos on social media, some key details have been omitted which has led people to believe the video must be related to the recent conflict involving the Israeli military.

The most recent shares of the video claim the IDF soldier experienced a mental breakdown due to fear of the Islamic Resistance Force, aka the Palestinian organization Hamas in Gaza, but this is not true.

“FOOTAGE: IDF SOLDIER HAS MENTAL BREAKDOWN. OLD MAN WANT WAR | YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TO FIGHT IT. Would the fighters, from both sides, go to war if it wasn’t decided from above?” read one X post containing the clip.

The truth is the video is actually over a decade old and unrelated to the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel.

The video was actually uploaded by Sky News Arabia on November 15, 2012, with the Arabic caption that translates to: “Qassam rockets cause panic in Israel”.
