Teacher who said military are the “dumbest” tells students he supports downloading “kiddy porn”

The California teacher who was fired after going viral with his inflammatory comments about the military reportedly thought downloading child porn should be legal, used racial slurs, bullied his students and even had nude images of women on his computer.

While Gregory Salcido was relieved of his position last month after pressure was placed upon the school, a subsequent investigation into the teacher revealed a much more malevolent side to the anti-military teacher, who was also a member of the El Rancho City Council.

In addition to referring to military personnel as the “lowest of the low,” Salcido reportedly bullied students into agreeing with his outlook and views, as well as telling kids that he would, under certain circumstances, kill them.

According to a report, which was compiled by Steve Hummel of the investigative group Paradox Technologies, Salcido committed several slights, including:

  • Having nude images of women on his work computer, which had been deleted;
  • Having an image of a young boy pulling on a sumo wrestler’s “thong like garment,” which had been deleted;
  • Telling students it should not be illegal to download “kiddy porn”;
  • Telling students they had the right to kill themselves;
  • Telling students he would kill everyone in the classroom if it were required to protect his family;
  • Using racial slurs when talking to students;
  • Regularly insulting students, including cursing at them;
  • Using corporal punishment in the classroom by making students do push-ups or squats;
  • Refusing to follow the district’s discipline policies;
  • Leaving campus during the school day, against his contractual requirements;
  • Completing City Council business on his school district computer;
  • Lying repeatedly during his interview with Hummel.

Interviews with students were not generally positive, which was well-reflected in the Hummel report.

According to the Whittier Daily News, one of the most disturbing parts of the reports was a recording of Salcido explaining how child porn should not be illegal.

“You didn’t take them, you’re not in them, but you downloaded them, and you’re arrested for that?” Salcido said. “I don’t think you should (be). I think you’re a freakin’ pig, but I don’t think you should get arrested.”

Ultimately, Hummel reported that removing Salcido was the only right option.

“History shows Mr. Salcido will not stop his unacceptable behavior no matter what discipline the district uses on him,” he wrote. “Mr. Salcido places his students in physical and emotional danger with his behavior. Removing Mr. Salcido seems to be the only way to protect the students.”
