Two suspects have been identified in the shooting death of a 24-year-old Army medic who was killed at an ATM in Albuquerque earlier this month.
Tyler Lackey survived a tour in Afghanistan. He was the youngest in a unit of Army paramedics that deployed in 2011, KOAT reports. His family is preparing to lay him to rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
Meantime, more details about the suspects are being released in hopes that someone has information that may help lead to their arrests. Police say Matthew Chavez and Veronica Trimble are behind the deadly shooting. They also say there’s a good chance the two have left the Albuquerque area– and are armed and dangerous.
Chavez is described as 6-foot-1-inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Trimble is 5-foot-5-inches tall, 150 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.
“We do believe they are armed and dangerous. Anyone who does have contact with them should call 911. We do not want you to approach these individuals,” said an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson.
Court records show both of have a history of arrests dating back several years.
On Feb. 5, APD says Lackey was at a Wells Fargo ATM withdrawing cash, when a car pulled up and one of the suspects shot him from inside the vehicle.
Tyler’s family said he went to the ATM after his credit card was declined earlier that night at a restaurant, due to a bank account error. Tyler apparently wanted to get cash from the ATM so that he could return to the restaurant and tip the waitress for the inconvenience.
