An accident during a training exercise at Yakima Training Center in Washington state left one soldier dead and two others, officials announced Tuesday.

PFC Joseph Alejandro Marquez, originally from Dover, Del., died after a “single-vehicle incident” Monday, according to the 7th Infantry Division. Two soldiers who have not been publicly identified were taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and have since been treated and released.

“PFC Marquez was known for his laughter and the light he spread everywhere he went,” the 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry, said in a statement. “We knew him as a loving son and brother to his family, a faithful friend to his comrades, and a loyal Soldier to his nation. He was and is so loved, and already so missed.”

No details of the accident have been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Marquez was based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord and served as a motor transport operator in 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, which falls under the 2nd Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

“Blackhawk Squadron sends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” Lt. Col. Michael Filanowski, commander of 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, said in a statement. “Our prayers and thoughts are with them during this difficult time.”
