A U.S. soldier in South Korea was found dead outside her apartment near Camp Carroll.
Staff Sgt. Theresa Garris, 28, of Stroudsburg, Pa., was found unresponsive in Chilgok county by first responders, according to Eighth Army and South Korean police.
Her body was discovered around 3 a.m. in the parking lot of her apartment, Stripes reports.
According to anonymous South Korean officials, evidence suggests Garris fell from her fourth-floor apartment.
SSG Garris arrived in South Korea on Sept. 15, 2021 and served with the 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade as a Patriot launching station enhanced operator and maintainer at Camp Carroll, a spokesperson for the Eight Army said.
“Every member of the Dragon Brigade is a member of our family and losing one is hard on the entire unit,” brigade commander Col. Scott McLellan said in an Eighth Army statement. “Together we will move forward, remember the past, and take care of each other during this tough time.”
Her awards include the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
Her death is under investigation but foul play is not suspected, according to her command.
