Soldier arrested after shooting man, going on the run with 17-year-old

A US Army Soldier was arrested in Texas, wanted in connection to the attempted murder of a Colorado man.

21-year-old Stephen Cruz Sandoval was captured in the Texas Panhandle town of Borger Sunday morning, hours away from where he shot a male victim in Fountain, Colorado.

When he fled Colorado, Sandoval took a 17-year-old girl with him, identified as Keloe Roxie-Malia Tata. She is not being considered a suspect in the shooting and was categorized by law enforcement as “missing and endangered.”

Sandoval is based out of Fort Carson, Colorado, home of the 4th Infantry Division.

“This arrest could not have been possible without the help of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Amarillo Police Department, Borger Police Department, and the El Paso County Communications Center. We are so thankful and appreciative of the collaborative effort of these agencies,” the Fountain Police Department said in a brief statement.

According to KKTV, the victim of the shooting suffered life-threatening injuries, and his condition has not been updated.

Sandoval will soon be charged with attempted second-degree murder, menacing and endangerment, among others. He is currently in the Texas-based Hutchinson County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Colorado.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
