A Navy brat became a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model- and now she wants to continue the military tradition.
Clarissa Bowers, the daughter of a US Navy Captain and sister to both a US Marine and Sailor, respectively, has become a finalist in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2020 Model Search.
Bowers is one of six finalists and hopes to become the winner this year.
For the model, modeling has always come second to the family tradition of military service.
“My father has been in the Navy for about 30 years now,” she told Fox News. “I have a brother in the Navy, another brother in the Marines, and I’m planning on joining the Navy myself once I am accepted into a medical program.”
When asked why she would give up modeling for the military, Bowers was pretty straightforward.
“I want to keep it going,” she said. “Coming from a military family, I’ve always had an innate appreciation for what the men and women of the military do for our country. They help us feel secure.”
Bowers plans on following her father into the medical field.
“I love working with kids and the military,” she said. “I think those are two very underserved populations. It makes my day. I’m still trying to figure out my exact path. But I know I want to do reconstructive surgery possibly.”
When pressed to comment on why she wanted to look into reconstructive surgery,” Bowers claimed it was because combat can often be unfair to those who survive horrific wounds, both physical and mental.
“Seeing all of these men and women go overseas, fight for our security and our safety has always been an inspiration for me,” she said. “However, they don’t always get to come back with the same mind and body they left with. So now, I like to volunteer at the VA where I can help out a little bit concerning the psychological aspects. But I also would really like to get into medicine and put back some of those pieces physically.”
The 2020 SI Model Search is not Bowers’ first rodeo- in 2018, she made it past a few rounds before being knocked out.
