A US Navy Corpsman threw a little mud on the US Marine Corps, albeit in a loving way that highlights the interdepartmental relationship between the two branches.
Nicky from the “NICKY MGTV” YouTube channel posted the video in response to an often-overused joke about the Marine Corps being the “Men’s Department of the Navy,” a play on the reality that the Marines are part of the Navy.
“Whoever keeps saying that on every video where I mentioned the Marine Corps, you guys are hilarious,” he said sarcastically.
Nicky pointed out that the Marine Corps exists to support the US Navy, both as shipborne fighting personnel and the land-projection arm of the seabound service.
“The Marine Corps does a lot of support functions for the Navy,” he said. “We work together.”
Still, no matter how much of a hard time Marines give the Navy, the fact of the matter is that the Commandant of the Marines still reports to the Secretary of the Navy.
“You’re really not even your own boss if you think about it,” he said.
Nicky admitted that being a Navy Corpsman, he would likely end up working with Marines in the future.
“I have the privilege of being able to be a Navy Corpsman,” he said. “I didn’t know the Corpsmen are some of the very few people that the Marines will respect. I don’t respect people either way, but it’s in a joking manner.”
