A US Navy Sailor was killed while aboard a guided missile cruiser in the Medditerranean Sea, according to Naval reports.

The Sailor, assigned to the USS Vella Gulf, reportedly fell down a ladderwell and fractured his skull.

The warship was around 180 nautical miles off the coast of the Greek island of Crete at the time.

According to the Navy Times, a helicopter was dispatched to fly the injured Sailor to Crete, but he was dead before the helicopter reached land.

The Pentagon is working with diplomats in Greece to repatriate the Sailor, whose identity is currently being withheld.
