As the United States withdraws from Syria, Russia -and its hired military contractors- have begun filling the vacuum, taking over former US bases and other facilities.
After the Americans left the Manbij camp on Tuesday following an order from President Donald J. Trump, the former base was quickly occupied by members of the Wagner Group, a Russian Private Military Company.
According to Ruptly, Syrian Democratic Forces official claimed that the US allowed Russian troops to take the base without any resistance.
Mercenaries who took over the base seemed amused at the feral dog population (which, for some reason, seem to look the exact same across the Middle East) and the security measures left behind by the Americans, including a hydraulic gate to prevent unauthorized entry into checkpoints.
A Russian defense blogger known as “MrRevinsky” provided much of the video footage available, tagging along with the Wagner Group as they took the base.
Since the US withdrawal, the Turkish military has begun pouring into Syria, attacking Kurdish troops as they push through the area.
