Retired Navy veteran gunned down in home invasion

Memphis, TN police are currently investigating the shooting of a retired Navy veteran in what appears to be a home invasion.

According to WMC Action News 5, Retired Navy veteran and grandfather, Albert Earl Farmer Jr, was shot inside of his home sometime after celebrating his 51st birthday on Sunday.

“It’s heart wrenching. It hurts,” said Sandra Farmer McCall, Farmer’s sister. “We never thought we would become a part of the homicide issue going on in Memphis, Tennessee.”

According to family members, Farmer regularly used surveillance cameras- all of which were inexplicably torn down. In addition, his vehicle is missing.

Farmer had celebrated a birthday this past Sunday but when family members said they went days without hearing from him, they grew concerned.

“Family became worried because no one had heard from him,” McCall said.

Police say that while it is difficult to see another homicide in Memphis, they are working around the clock to reduce crime.

“Try to educate the public on trying to reduce crime, trying to reduce especially homicides and these murders, because you never want to see that. It’s heartfelt. Families are affected, so it’s tough,” Lt. Gregory Sanders said.
