Restaurant apologizes after 2 reenactors wore Nazi uniforms

A Hudson restaurant apologized after two people dressed as Nazi SS soldiers during a World War II reenactment event on Saturday.

The reenactment was organized by the American Heritage Museum, called “Battle for the Airfield WWII Reenactment Weekend.” The event included “Allied and Axis camps will be set up with authentic materials and appearance,” according to the event description.

Reenactors dined at Kith and Kin Saturday night, the restaurant’s Facebook page explained Sunday.

“The table of eight showed up in their costumes: four U.S. soldiers, a military nurse, and a couple dressed as SS soldiers,” the post read. “In hindsight, they should have been asked to change before being seated.”

While the group was dressed for the event, “at a time when acts of antisemitic violence continues to rise, we should have realized other diners might not be aware of the local WWII reenactment,” the restaurant stated.

“We would never intentionally do anything to offend or hurt anyone in the community,” the statement read. “If we truly thought these individuals held antisemitic beliefs, we would never have allowed them to step foot in the restaurant.”

“Last night we fell short, and we deeply apologize,” the statement concluded.
