The unmanned NASA cargo rocket Antares carrying Cygnus spacecraft exploded a short 6 seconds after takeoff Tuesday evening. It is not immediately known if there are any injuries on the ground.

The two stage rocket was scheduled to launch Monday, but was postponed due to a boat being in the vicinity of the launch area. It was rescheduled for tonight. It was carring over 1300 lbs of food to scientists at the International Space Station.

The explosion was so fierce that it showed up on Doppler Radar. The compay that owned Antares, Orbital Sciences, is currently “evaluating” the situation. It is not known if the failed supply mission will require astronauts to return to Earth earlier than scheduled.
