Police say U.S. Army soldier killed himself outside of Fort Riley

A 21-year-old Army Private fatally shot himself outside of Fort Riley, Kansas on Sunday.

Deputies from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Dakota Noah in Junction City after they received a tip concerning an “armed and possibly suicidal subject inside a vehicle.”

Noah shot himself after Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to communicate with him, prompting emergency services to transport him to Geary Community Hospital, where he later died.

At the time of his death, Noah was an infantryman assigned to the Big Red One’s 1st Combined Arms Battalion of the 18th Infantry Regiment, which falls under the division’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Pvt. Noah,” said 1st Infantry Division Chief of Staff Colonel Charles Masaracchia. “The ‘Big Red One’ and the ‘Dagger’ brigade are dedicated to supporting his friends and family in this difficult time.”

According to the Military Times, Private Noah had been in the Army since September of 2017 and had never deployed.
