Police on Long Island, NY have released video of three people stealing a POW and U.S. flag from a beach park. The incident occurred back in August, but according to Abc7, Veterans Day has sparked a new outrage.
Three young people – two boys and a girl—can be seen on surveillance video making desperate attempts to rip the flags down in Osprey Park, which is located in Mastic Beach on Long Island,NY. They even go as far was climbing on each other’s shoulders to try and reach the flag.
County police Lieutenant Christopher Corsino said, “The investigator involved in this case has exhausted all his investigative avenues and now, we’re appealing to the public to help see if we can identify and subsequently capture the three individuals who committed the act.”
According to John Mutt, the manager of the park, the park was locked at the time the flags were stolen.
“It’s really a disturbing thing…we really maintain the park for the town of Brookhaven and it’s upsetting to see,” Mutt said during an interview with Abc7.
If the robbery was not disrespectful enough, one of the thieves reportedly took a selfie while committing the crime.
The three teens face petit larceny charges and a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
