Houston, native a Marine Corps drill instructor on Parris Island

Sgt. Kingsley Nwosu Jr. currently serves as a Marine Corps drill instructor with Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Nwosu joined the Marine Corps in July 2006 and became a drill instructor in April 2013. “I decided to become a drill instructor because being a Marine brought me out of a bad situation. My drill instructors are the ones that made me become a good Marine, and they gave me the foundation I needed in the Marine Corps. So, I decided that it would be good if I could do the same for other kids who could be in my situation,” said Nwosu, a Houston native. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
