One person injured during gas explosion at the Air Force Academy

Update: Initial reports indicate a crew was working on a water line project when they accidentally hit the gas line.

One person has been taken to the hospital for a gas pipeline explosion at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

The incident occurred Tuesday around 8:30 a.m., according to a release that was was sent an hour later.

The local news crews have been told by the Academy they are not allowed on the campus for safety reasons.

The explosion is said to have happened near the intersection of Douglas Loop and Interior Drive at the Douglas Valley House.

Multiple agencies are responding to the scene, including the Air Force Academy fire personnel, Colorado Springs Fire Department and utility crews.

First responders are still investigating the exact cause, extent of any damage and have not reported any other injuries.
