A new Army recruit was brave enough to allow himself to be broadcast to the local Houston area and the world over social media on Wednesday.
Devontae Smith is joining the Army and knew he would not be able to keep the dreadlocks he’s been growing for five years, so he agreed to cut them off publically.
Smith, 21, said the benefits the Army provides servicemen and women and the opportunities it will provide for him in the future are what he found attractive.
When it came time to cut his dreads off, he was certainly not as prepared as he thought he was. As the scissors began to cut, the look of regret and fear were clearly shown through his facial expressions.
Smith said he leaves for basic training on November 19th and will be stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia.
