New ‘battle buddy’ named Spot could be useful in combat

Spot is Boston Dynamic’s newest robotic creation.  He is a four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation.  He is electrically powered and can navigate difficult terrain significantly better than his predecessor, the Wildcat.

The WildCat is a much heavier gas powered robot that was created with funding from DARPA.  Last year the Marines field tested the Wildcat with infantry units to test his effectiveness at moving equipment over rough terrain.

We are not sure how Spot will be introduced to the Military, but he is much quieter and agile than his older brother Wildcat.  Spot’s lightweight and stealth could provide better assistance to special operators in mountainous terrain.
