A fight on the Santa Monica pier escalated into a deadly stabbing attack in downtown Santa Monica and police say a member of the US Navy is responsible.
Theo Andrew Krah is a Navy Special Warfare Operator – according to the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles. The Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Command is the branch’s special operations force and the maritime component of US Special Operations Command.
According to their website, “NSW forces can operate in small groups and have a continuous presence overseas with their ability to quickly deploy from Navy ships, submarines and aircraft, overseas bases and forward-based units “.
There are Navy Seals in Krah’s unit — Special Warfare Group 1 — but it’s unclear what specific role he has in that organization.
Also unclear –what brought Krah to the Santa Monica area in the first place and the motive behind this vicious attack that left a man his 50s dead. The victim died of a stab wound to the head, police say.
CBS LA reports that police swarmed the area of 5th and Santa Monica Blvd., on Saturday where the murder happened. Police don’t believe that Krah knew the victim, but he apparently had an argument with him that started on the pier and ended up in the downtown area of the city, a few blocks away.
Witnesses helped police track Krah down to San Diego County- where he was arrested. He’s now being held on $2 million bail.
Anyone with information about the case is being asked to call the Santa Monica Police Department at (310) 458-8495.
