Just before he was scheduled to return to military duty, 22 year old Matthew Good’s body was found off a dirt road in rural Georgia. Investigators say Good’s family had filed a missing person’s report Saturday. They were preparing a going away party for him that day, before he left for Washington State to resume his work with the Navy.
But according to News 12 in Augusta, Matt was headed out to the beach before his party with some friends. According to his friends – while on their way to Tybee Island, Matt at some point got out of his car and started walking. That’s the last time they saw him.
Police say his body was discovered off the highway, in a densely wooded area. Good’s sister said she last saw him Thursday and something didn’t feel right. “I had an uneasy feeling even that day he came in Thursday that something was going to go wrong,” she said.
No official word yet if foul play was involved, but Good’s family thinks there is more to the story. They are now waiting for answers, while an autopsy is conducted to determine the cause of death.
Investigators with the Emanuel and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, along with agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) continue to investigate the death. If you have any information related to this case, please contact the Sheriff’s Investigations Division at (478) 237-6360.
