Navy flight officer arrested in Florida for child molestation

A Naval flight officer from New York was arrested at his home base in Jacksonville, Florida, after he allegedly fondled a preteen girl’s genitals.

48-year-old Commander Dustin D. Chapin of Patrol Reconnaissance Wing 11 was taken into custody by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on December 20. He was charged with lewd/lascivious molestation of a victim who was less than 12-years-old.

The incident that led to the arrest allegedly took place in May, according to the Navy Times, during a visit at a friend’s house. During the visit, Chapin reportedly went into the bedroom and touched the sleeping child’s genitals.

The victim recounted that Chapin was wearing a green shirt with writing on it during the offense and relayed the information to detectives.

Currently held without bond and due in court on January 23, Chapin enlisted in 1988 and was commissioned in 2001. He has been with Patrol Reconnaissance Wing 11 since 2014.

The victim’s mother is responsible for reporting Chapin to authorities.
