Navy Blue Angels pilot blasts spectators with exhaust a few meters over their heads

Navy lieutenant Brandon Hempler, the “Opposing Solo” on the Blue Angels team, gave spectators and professional aviation photographer Norman Graf a real close look at his #6 Blue Angels Navy F/A-18 aircraft on Saturday.

Hempler was preparing for the upcoming airshow season at Naval Air Facility El Centro, in California, when he gave the spectators a view of an extremely low transition takeoff directly over their heads.

“For those of you suffering from the Airshow Blues, here’s something to get you ready for the 2018 season,” wrote Graf, who recorded the video.

Hempler joined the Blue Angels in September 2016 and has accumulated more than 2,200 flight hours and 320 carrier-arrested landings. His decorations include two Strike Flight Air Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various personal and unit awards.
