The Alabama National Guard is stepping forward in the aftermath of the investigation of a viral video, in which one of their own was accused of dumping two dogs on the side of the road.
The Soldier in the now-viral video has been identified as Sergeant Tiesha Huff of the Alabama Army National Guard’s 1-117th Field Artillery Regiment.
On her way home from a drill weekend, Huff reportedly stopped to help the dogs after she saw on the side of the road.
She surveyed the scene for safety and then opened her trunk to get water for the animals.
The Alabama National Guard praised Huff for her actions, stating that she displayed the integrity and selfless service they expect from their members.
“Sgt. Huff opened her trunk, retrieving water to care for them,” the Guard said in a statement. “We want to commend her for living the values we expect of all our Guardsmen, even when she thought no one was watching. Her actions were an outstanding display of sterling character and represent the integrity and selfless service that defines the Alabama National Guard.”
Unfortunately for Huff, her generous actions were being filmed by someone who didn’t have the whole story and jumped to conclusions.
The video, originally filmed and posted by Ken Creel on social media, shows Huff walking out of the woods with a towel over her arm, getting into her vehicle, and driving away.
Some people who saw the video assumed she was abandoning the dogs and reported the matter to military authorities.
The Alabama Guard thanked those who contacted them with the video, but emphasized that assumptions should not be made without knowing the whole story.
According to WFSA, the fate of the two dogs is still unknown, as the Guard has not provided further information on their whereabouts or condition following the incident.
Additionally, it is unknown if Mr. Creel will face defamation suits or be asked to issue a formal apology in the aftermath of the ruckus caused online.
In light of the incident, the Guard reiterated their commitment to holding their members to high standards and expressed appreciation for public involvement. They stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in maintaining public trust.
