National Guard deployed to clear and secure the Capitol after pro-Trump protesters storm building

The National Guard was deployed to the U.S. Capitol after supporters of President Donald Trump breached the building Wednesday afternoon.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi requested troops after protesters stormed the building, prompting a lockdown.

The president’s supports are rallying Wednesday as Congress certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Videos and photos taken on the streets of Washington, D.C. show protesters clashing with police, including the use of pepper spray on both sides.

A curfew has been enacted for the city starting at 6 p.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday.

“During the hours of the curfew, no person, other than persons designated by the Mayor, shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand, or motor by car or other mode of transport upon any street, alley, park, or other public place within the District,” a statement from the mayor’s office reads.
