National Guard condemns soldier’s actions during brawl at Wrigley Field

The National Guard has condemned the actions of a soldier involved in a fight this week in the bleachers at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

After the Pirates beat the Cubs 5-1 on Monday, a fight broke out in the stands and a recording of the incident was released on Twitter shortly after.

During the recording, the soldier involved in the fight can be heard saying “If my unit sees that, I’m dead,” after he realized he was recorded hurling racial slurs at people in the bleachers.

The soldier has not been identified but the Indiana National Guard released the following statement:

“On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 we became aware of an incident allegedly involving an Indiana National Guard soldier that took place on September 24, 2018 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

The statements made by this individual are not in keeping with the Army Values, and they do not reflect the views or beliefs of the United States Armed Forces, and specifically, the Indiana National Guard.

We take these types of situations very seriously, and the conduct of this individual is unbecoming of a service member.

The Indiana National Guard is conducting a thorough inquiry to determine the details surrounding this incident.”
