Military retires working dog that Taliban offered $50,000 to kill

A German Shepherd with a long career of service to the United States has made it to retirement.  Buck finished his career while stationed in Korea but was well known by the Taliban in Afghanistan for sniffing out bombs.

According to ABC15, while Buck and his handler, Air Force Tech Sergeant Caleb Snapp, were deployed in Afghanistan the Taliban offered $50,000 to anyone who could kill them.

After the deployment Buck was reassigned to Korea and Sergeant Snapp was off to a new duty station.  Snapp and Buck have spent five years apart since then but during the deployment Snapp and his family developed a strong bond with the dog. When Snapp heard that Buck was going to be retired he convinced the Air Force to take him home.
