Update: Military intelligence airman who was found dead on duty has been identified

An Airman assigned to the 31st Intelligence Squadron at Fort Gordon was found dead in his work area during duty hours on Wednesday.

This is truly a tragic time for each member of our squadron, having to say goodbye to a beloved colleague,” said Lt. Col. Andy Freeman, 31st IS commander in a press release. “This certainly weighs heavily on all of us, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow Airmen during this terrible time.”

The 31st IS is subordinate to the 480th Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Wing, which is headquartered at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.

The identity of the airman is customarily being withheld until the next-of-kin have been adequately notified.

Fort Gordon is an Army installation in Georgia and home to both the United States Army Signal Corps, the Cyber Center of Excellence and a $285 million National Security Agency (NSA) complex.
