A sailor who performs security for the Navy shot himself at Naval Station Norfolk Tuesday morning.

Base spokeswoman Kelly Wirfel said the sailor was a master-at-arms and was at the base’s security training building when the shooting happened about 9:30 a.m.

The sailor shot himself in the right leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the Virginia-Pilot.
