The U.S. Marines tested a Ultra Heavy-lift Amphibious Connector (UHAC) half-scale prototype on March 3rd, 2014 in Honolulu harbor. The full-scale version (artist rendering below) will have three times the payload capability of an LCAC and be able to crawl up sea walls up to ten feet high. The unique foam tracks with captive air cells will allow the craft to attain speeds up to 20 knots and maneuver over marshes and mud flats. With a payload of 240 tons, the UHAC will enable the transport of large amounts of cargo and troops from sea base to shore.
