
The body of a Marine who went missing on Wednesday was found in a river at the U.S. Army’s Fort Leonard Wood base on Thursday morning.
The U.S. Army and the Missouri State Highway Patrol found the unidentified Marine’s body in the Big Piney River.
According to Fort Leonard Wood’s Directorate of Emergency Services, the Marine went missing around 4:25 p.m. on the Fourth of July after being swept away by the river’s current.
Search and rescue teams were unable to locate the missing Marine Wednesday and called off their search after 9 p.m.
They resumed their search on Thursday after 7 a.m. and found the body at 9:20 a.m.
The Marine was assigned to the Marine Corps Detachment at the Army base.
