Police in Atlanta are looking for the suspect who shot an elderly man seven times as he was leaving a party with his wife over the weekend.

71-year-old Marine vet, Sylvester Stinson, is reportedly in stable condition. Neighbors tell Fox 5 that Stinson is a deacon and grandfather, who can often be seen playing in the front yard with his grandchildren.

As he was leaving a birthday party at around 11 p.m. Saturday night, an unidentified black man approached him and demanded everything he had — including his black Cadillac.

AJC.com reports that Stinson wasn’t going to let the carjacker get to his wife, so he risked getting shot to protect her.

Police are speaking with several witnesses, who were in the area of Ramsey Close in SW Atlanta at the time of the shooting.

A sketch of the alleged gunman was released this week. He’s described as 5-foot 8-inches tall with a thin build and in his early teens or late 20s.
