Marine kills himself with rented gun after killing girlfriend in apartment

Wilmington, NC – A Marine sergeant, who killed himself at a shooting range in Wilmington on Monday, left a note behind that led investigators to an apartment where they found the body of his girlfriend.

Justin Hakeem Walker, 26, went into the gun range, rented three handguns and shot himself in the head. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to WCTI.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley says officers entered Walker’s apartment and found the body of 23-year-old Rebecca Jones -a nurse at a local medical center.

A preliminary autopsy showed she died from strangulation. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Walker was arrested in 2014 for going armed to the terror of the public, assault by pointing a gun, simple assault, and communicating threats, according to WECT.

Walker was a sergeant with Company F, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division at Camp Lejeune.
