A 19-year-old Marine, from Florida, has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on governmental officers after authorities say he intentionally rammed a sheriff’s office patrol vehicle with an officer inside, according to arrest records.
Anthony Taveras Furcal is accused of hitting Master Cpl. N. Dobo’s vehicle in a Big Lots parking lot at a speed of 15-20 mph.
The warrants also say that after ramming the patrol vehicle with a 2015 Chevrolet Camero, Furcal assaulted Sgt. S. Garlick of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office by driving toward Garlick while he was outside his vehicle.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Furcal was allegedly doing donuts, burnouts and other stunts in the Big Lots parking lot at 3718 Battleground Ave. and the two officers attempted to arrest him.
A chase ensued when Furcal attempted to flee. The warrant says that Furcal drove at a speed of 140 mph in a 55-mph zone on U.S. 220. In addition, it says, Furcal drove the wrong way on a dual lane.
Furcal was placed in the Guilford County jail on a bond totaling $55,000.
Taveras-Furcal is a Marine Lance Corporal, currently serving as an 0311 Infantry Rifleman and assigned to the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, said 2nd Lt. Reagan Johnson, a spokeswoman for the division.
“We acknowledge that Guilford County has taken this Marine into custody and, at present, is facing legal matters there,” Johnson told Task & Purpose on Wednesday. “Currently, there are no additional pending legal/administrative matters at 2d Marine Division.”
In addition to the two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on governmental officers, Furcal is charged with the following offenses.

- Flee/Elude arrest with a motor vehicle
- Driving the wrong way on a dual-lane road
- Resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer
